Changing our habits can be a continuous challenge and we wanted to create an app that would help people effectively achieve their target habits.
Our goal was to make the simplest and most sharply focused self-improvement app possible. As a result, HabitApp is basically the opposite of all the other self-improvement apps. You choose one habit to work on at a time and then regularly receive positive triggers. You work on it for 21 days. And your progress is tracked automatically. Its real simple and youll get real results!
If you look at other apps that are meant to help you change your habits, youll find that they suffer from feature-bloat. That is, they are jam-packed with all kinds of superfluous features and functions. They contain many distractions such as driving you to work on multiple goals and habits simultaneously.
Also, these self-improvement apps have overly complicated and unnecessary tracking functions. We found that when we tried to use them, we didnt get any results oursleves. These apps were also very discouraging because their tracking features continuously reminded us when we invariably failed to maintain our new habits. Finally, these apps failed to provide a positive trigger that research has found is necessary for people to change their habits and behaviors.
Another major difference is that other so-called "habit" apps are actually just reminder apps. They remind you to go to the gym or walk your dog at a certain time of the day. But these are not habits! And doing these tasks once a day will not result in any meaningful changes in your life.
Habits are the behaviors ingrained in your life, that occur continuously throughout the day, often without you even realizing it. To change these behaviors requires you to be constantly aware of what it is that you are hoping to change.
The iPhone is a great tool for changing your habits. People love their iPhones and almost always have them within reach. In fact, research has found that the average iPhone user looks at their phone more that 100 times a day. With HabitApp, you will be notified of the habit you are working on almost every time you look at your phone.
Once you select your habit and your alert settings, you basically dont need to open the app again for three weeks because tracking is automatic. The app is designed so that you dont have to spend much time within the actual app itself. Instead, you will receive notifications of your new habit every 15 minutes (you can adjust the frequency of notifications).
Rather than focusing on trying to maintain a habit for a full day or a full week, HabitApp just encourages you to focus on maintaining your habit for just the 15 minute window. This take a lot less willpower! Dont worry if you fail, another 15 minute window will be coming and you can just try again to maintain your target habit until the next notification. Before you know it, you will have gone a few hours, then a few days, and then a few weeks maintaining your new habit. And by then, it will be second-nature.
HabitApp has helped us build good habits in our daily lives and we are confident it will do the same for you. Just stick with it. The first couple days are the hardest. Make it through that and youll be well on your way to a brand new habit!
Use HabitApp for self-improvement, to bring discipline into your life, and to achieve your goals one by one.
